‘Music legend’ Sharan Rani was the first Indian female instrumentalist of international repute. Breaking through the centuries old glass ceiling, Sharan Rani became the very first woman to take up ‘Sarod’, an instrument so difficult that it was termed as a ‘man’s instrument.’ Soon her name became synonymous with the Sarod and she became popularly known as ‘Sarod Rani’ (Queen of Sarod).
